Kirklees Local TV (KLTV) has released three new episodes in its Windrush: Wise Words series.

Available to watch now on KLTV’s website and YouTube Channel, Wise Words is a powerful collection of short films capturing the voices, memories, and lessons of figures who helped shape the cultural and social fabric of Huddersfield’s African Caribbean community.

Through candid interviews and vivid storytelling, the films spotlight Howard Belafonte, Peter Rowe, and Denzil Nurse, three men whose journeys reveal what it means to build identity, confront adversity, and create legacy.

Together, their stories stand as both a testament to the past and a guide for the generations to come.

Echoes of Resistance: Howard Belafonte’s Wise Words

Howard Belafonte, son of Jamaican migrants, captain of the school football team, and selector of the legendary Armageddon Sound System, transformed basslines into battle cries and dancehalls into sanctuaries of resistance.

Born in 1963, Howard’s journey mirrors the struggles and triumphs of Huddersfield’s Black community — from the racism faced by his parents to the riots that shook local streets. Through Armageddon Sound, he and his crew forged not just rhythms, but identity, unity, and pride.
