As part of the Windrush Day 2025 celebrations, Kirklees Local TV proudly presents the Windrush Wise Words project, a powerful new series featuring 16 video stories that illuminate the lives, struggles, and triumphs of first- and second-generation Caribbean people in Britain.

Join us live on KLTV’s YouTube on Friday, 20th June, from 5:30 pm, for a special event at Brian Jackson House in Huddersfield, where clips from three compelling video testimonies will be premiered.

These will be followed by an inspiring panel discussion featuring powerful women speakers who are not only shaping today’s society but are also keepers of their community’s rich legacy.

Among the featured speakers is Dr Helen Wells, a trauma counsellor whose journey from illiteracy to earning a PhD stands as a testament to resilience and academic excellence.  Dr Wells’ story is one of transformation, courage, and dedication to future generations.

The event will also be joined by an esteemed panel of influential women leaders, including:

• Cllr Amanda Pinnock, Ashbrow Ward Councillor

• Alison Lowe, West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor

• Harpreet Uppal, Member of Parliament

• Cllr Liz Smaje, Mayor of Kirklees

• Louise Lewis, Executive Member of the National Education Union (NEU)

Deputy Mayor of West Yorkshire Alison Lowe shares the importance of celebrating the Windrush Generation and all their successes.

These trailblazing women will reflect on the significance of the Windrush legacy and the importance of preserving these stories for future generations.

Their voices, experience, and leadership add depth to the conversation, highlighting the crucial role women play in championing equality, education, and community empowerment.
