As the Winter season approaches, the spirit of giving is in full swing in Kirklees, with numerous opportunities to volunteer and spread cheer throughout the community.
From supporting local charities to helping out at events, there’s a range of roles available for those looking to make a difference this season.

Advice and Guidance Volunteer at Huddersfield Mission
Huddersfield Mission is seeking volunteers to support their advice team at weekday drop-in sessions from 9:30 am to 1 pm.
Volunteers will assist those struggling with various issues, including homelessness, mental health, and addiction, by making referrals and signposting to services.
This role is suitable for individuals aged 18 and over.
Christmas Fundraising and Events Volunteers for Forget-Me-Not Children’s Hospice
Get into the festive spirit by supporting local children’s hospice fundraising activities.
Volunteers are needed for bucket collections and elf duties to help bring joy to children in need.
Christmas Day Volunteers at the Branch, Jubilee Centre, Paddock
On Christmas Day, volunteers are needed to serve as drivers, kitchen helpers, servers, or hosts at a meal event for individuals who are alone during the holidays. This is a perfect opportunity to make someone’s Christmas special.
Christmas Tree Recycling with The Kirkwood
From the 7th – 11th of January, The Kirkwood is organising a Christmas tree recycling campaign and needs volunteers with or without vans to help collect over 2,000 trees.
Volunteers will be treated to a complimentary breakfast and lunch provided by FMG in Bradley, Huddersfield.
Christmas Tree Recycling with Forget-Me-Not Children’s Hospice
Similar to The Kirkwood’s initiative, between the 6th – 15th of January, this opportunity involves volunteering as a driver or driver’s mate to collect real Christmas trees for recycling.
Volunteers can choose to help out for half a day or more.
Online Inventory Assistant for Forget-Me-Not Children’s Hospice Shop
Volunteers aged 14 and over are needed at the Manchester Road shop in Huddersfield to photograph goods for online sales and package them for buyers.
This role is ideal for those interested in e-commerce.
Retail Assistant at Barnardo’s Shop in Ravensthorpe
Gain retail experience by working on tills, preparing stock, steaming, pricing items, and creating window displays.
Full training is provided, and this role is suitable for individuals aged 14 and over.
YMCA Shop Volunteer in Huddersfield Town Centre
Assist in the newly opened YMCA shop on King Street, Huddersfield.
Volunteers will help with sorting stock, creating displays, and serving customers in a supportive environment.
Fresh Futures Parent Champion
Work within the community to promote health messages to families and signpost them to available support services.
This role is open to anyone aged 18 and over and can be done from anywhere in Kirklees.
Healthwatch Kirklees Volunteer
Healthwatch Kirklees is looking for volunteers to gather feedback on NHS and Social Care services.
Roles include Community Engagement and Outreach Volunteer and Online Feedback Collector.
Cloverleaf Autism Group Volunteer
Support groups for adults with autism in Huddersfield and Batley by helping with room setup, welcoming new members, promoting the group, and planning activities.
Volunteer opportunities are available monthly at various locations.
Volunteer Jewellery Maker/Mender at Oxfam Online Warehouse in Batley
Utilise your creative skills to mend and revamp second-hand jewellery donated to Oxfam.
Travel and lunch expenses are covered for volunteers who work four hours or more at a time.
Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival Volunteer
On the 22nd of February 2025, prepare for the Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival by helping with lantern-making workshops and supporting the event as an organiser or steward.
The festival celebrates the local community and will include various fringe events leading up to the main day.
