Volunteers’ Week 2025: Kirklees Celebrates the Heart of Community Spirit

Third Sector Leaders Kirklees to host events and thank hundreds of local volunteers

Volunteers’ Week 2025, running from 2 to 8 June, is a UK-wide celebration recognising the invaluable contribution volunteers make across the country.

Since its inception in 1984, the annual event has provided a vital platform to thank volunteers and highlight the impact of their time, passion, and skills.

In Kirklees, the Volunteer Centre, run by Third Sector Leaders (TSL) Kirklees, will join thousands of charities and organisations to celebrate and thank volunteers who support local communities.

Drop-in Events and Online Sessions Offer Opportunities to Get Involved

TSL Kirklees will host a series of free drop-in events on Wednesday 4 June, inviting members of the public and businesses interested in volunteering to enjoy tea, coffee, and cake in a friendly, informal setting. T

The sessions are designed to connect people with volunteering opportunities and promote employer-supported volunteering schemes.

The events will take place at:

Dewsbury: 11.00 am – 12.30 pm at The 3 Strand Café, Longcauseway, Dewsbury, WF13 1NH
Huddersfield: 2.00 pm – 3.30 pm at Brian Jackson House, 2 New North Parade, Huddersfield, HD1 5JP

An online information session will also be held on Thursday 5 June from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm via Zoom.

Supporting Hundreds of Volunteer-Led Groups Across Kirklees

This Volunteers’ Week, TSL Kirklees has also helped over 35 volunteer-run groups and small organisations, and thanked more than 800 volunteers through their dedicated thank-you fund.

These volunteers give their time to a wide range of causes, including food banks, dementia support groups, Scouts and Girl Guiding, luncheon clubs, community gardening projects, repair cafés, and many more.

Volunteer Services Manager Highlights the Value of Volunteering

Becky Bracey, Volunteer Services Manager at TSL Kirklees, said: “Volunteers Week is a fantastic opportunity for us to raise awareness and celebrate the amazing role of volunteers in our local communities who help people, places and the local environment.

“Volunteers give their time for all sorts of reasons, but we know volunteering can also help people socialise, gain new skills and is generally good for your health and wellbeing.

“We are here to help anyone interested in giving a small amount of their time to help a local cause.”
