There are lots of events and groups in Ashbrow that offer all sorts of opportunities to engage with the community, socialise, and grow. If you have kids who are looking for something to do this week, or you’re new to Ashbrow or Huddersfield and could do with meeting some new people, here is a list of groups and activities taking place this week.

Additionally, dates for Taekwondo classes with Premier Taekwondo and the Scouts have been released, check them out later in the year.

Chestnut Centre

Monday 22 January – Appointment – Locala Baby Clinic

Tuesday 23 January 10 am – 12 pm – Aspire Mature Adults Group

Aspire Creating Communities is an Occupational Therapy based, person-focused, dementia-friendly service, centred around building relationships with group attendees. If you are a mature adult and are looking to socialise with new people or just want to get out of the house then this is a good opportunity.

Weekly meetings – £2.50 entry per session.

Wednesday 24 January 10 am – 11.30 am – Contact Point, Meeting with Huddersfield NPT officers.

Residents are encouraged to come and speak to their local officers and partners about any concerns they might have about the community. If anyone has any questions they want answered or just want to know what’s going on, feel free to come and find out.

Wednesday 24 January 12.45 pm – 2.15 pm – Bee2gether social group.

Bee2gether social group is open to anyone who is looking to meet new people and feel like part of the community. If people are new to the area or are looking to make some new friends then this is the perfect place.

Weekly meetings – £1

Thursday 25 10 am – 12 pm – Busy Bee Stay and Play

Busy Bee Stay and Play is a social group for parents/carers and babies up to 5 years old. If someone is a parent/carer and looking to socialise with another parent/carer this group is ideal. Parents and children can make bonds that go on for the rest of their lives. Games, activities, and outings are all offered for free.

Friday 26 January 10 am – 12 pm – Bread and Butter Thing

The Bread and Butter thing is a mobile food club, making weekly shopping more affordable for people on low incomes. Become a member through the Bread and Butter Thing website and sign up to get bags of great value shopping for incredibly cheap. All this is helping to build stronger communities and reduce food waste.

Applause Theatreworks

Wednesdays 24 January 6.15 pm – 7.15 pm – Music Theater acting lessons

Applause Thearworks is offering acting lessons for anyone looking to get into musical theatre. All ages are welcome, so if interested in being centre stage or just in musical Theatre, this group is worth checking out.

Catholic Care Services for Older People

Friday 26 January 11:00 am – Meeting groups for older people

Groups like this allow older people to maintain or improve their fitness (with an exercise programme supported by Age UK), meet new people, develop new skills, and lead more fulfilling lives. Older people living with dementia are most welcome to attend with their carer and join in the fun.

Most people know who the scouts are, but for those that don’t, it’s a group that does what it can to teach children skills for the future and allow them to socialise and go on adventures. With activities like camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling, and canoeing. The scouts are a place for kids to grow and develop.
