New competition seeks passionate local traders to shape the future of Dewsbury’s retail scene
A major opportunity is on offer for independent businesses as The Arcade, Dewsbury launches its “Win a Shop” competition, offering one lucky winner a rent-free retail unit for a full year in the landmark redevelopment set to open in spring 2026.
The competition aims to uncover a dynamic and community-minded trader who can bring creativity and originality to the town centre, forming part of The Arcade’s ambitious vision to become Dewsbury’s premier retail and leisure destination.
Championing Independent Spirit
“We are incredibly excited to launch this initiative and offer a fantastic platform for a deserving independent business,” said Chris Hill, Arcade Group Development Director.
“The Arcade Dewsbury is being designed to be a thriving hub, and independent businesses are key to creating that unique character and fostering a strong sense of community.
“This competition is our way of investing directly in local talent and helping a business truly flourish.”
The initiative is open to new and existing businesses that bring something distinctive to the town centre, from handcrafted goods and artisan food to fashion, wellness products, books, vintage finds, and creative services.
How to Apply
The competition invites applications and nominations from individuals or supporters who believe a local business deserves the chance to shine.
Entrants must explain why the business would be an ideal fit for The Arcade, what unique offering they bring to the table, and how the opportunity could transform their growth.
The winner will be granted a retail unit in The Arcade with no rent to pay for 12 months from their opening date, an unprecedented chance to establish a strong presence in a high-profile location.
