Emily Bronte’s class novel ‘Wuthering Heights’ will be brought to life by the Chapterhouse Theatre Company at Oakwell Hall on Wednesday 31 July.
The wild love story of Catherine and Heathcliff is being written by the award-winning writer Laura Turner, who brings the story from the picturesque Yorkshire Moors into Oakwell’s walled garden.
The cast has performed at various stages across the country with the show debuting to a sold-out crowd at Erddig Hall in Wales. The event will be the final performance of the summer by the Chapterhouse Theatre Company in the local area.
Organisers have encouraged audience members to bring rugs or low-backed chairs to the open-air event. Refreshments are available during the interval.
The performance starts at 7:30 pm with the gardens opened for viewing and picnics from 6:30 pm.
A spokesperson for the Chapterhouse Theatre Company commented:
“Wuthering Heights has been a joy to put together for our cast and production team this year, which has been enjoying healthy crowds since it started touring in mid-June. ‘
“It’s a true gothic masterpiece, pulling together the high drama of nature at its most stark and tempestuous to paint a picture of a world at once insulated and boundless.
“Audience members have been in touch over the past month and have called the show ‘spectacular’, ‘beautiful’, and ‘phenomenal’… We performed at Oakwell Hall last summer, and we’re excited to end July by returning with this show.”
“We have a wonderful cast who have been working very hard to bring the story to life, and they all understand the nuances and motives of their characters.
“It’s suitable for everyone, too… I think we’ve been seeing such great sales for the show is that it’s a hallmark on the school syllabus.
“For learning about the literature of world-building, romance, the gothic genre, and narrative structure it’s a story that gives and gives to all who read it.”
