Yorkshire Children’s Centre (YCC) provides a range of support services for families, young people, and older people across Kirklees (and parts of South Yorkshire).

In the UK approximately 1.5 million adults are now affected by loneliness, with 1 in 4 adults reporting feeling lonely and isolated, this can lead to anxiety levels being up to 5 times higher than usual.

For a huge variety of reasons, people can become lonely and isolated, and physical and mental health can be hugely restricting factors.

If applicants enjoy chatting, would like to make a difference to a lonely person, and can spare about an hour a week, becoming a YCC Community Friends Volunteer can be a great opportunity. YCC is a local charity, based in Huddersfield that covers the whole of Kirklees.

• Community Friends Volunteer would visit someone local for about an hour a week for a chat. This could involve a walk, sitting or pottering in the garden, a trip to a café, etc.
• This can make a positive impact in alleviating boredom, giving people something to look forward to each week, and reducing feelings of loneliness.
• When an applicant has decided to join, there is an application form, DBS check, and short training session to complete. Then a local match will be made for each volunteer.

To be eligible applicants must be 18 years old and above.
