Emley AFC prepare for blockbuster pre-season clashes against League One giants at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground
Move over Club World Cup, real football is back in Yorkshire as Emley AFC prepare to host two high-profile pre-season friendlies at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.
With Huddersfield Town and Barnsley FC both set to visit this week, the stage is set for two thrilling clashes.
Huddersfield Town kick off the action on Saturday 28 June at 3 pm, marking the first match in charge for new manager Lee Grant.
Just three days later, Barnsley FC will travel to Emley for a 7 pm kick-off on Tuesday 1 July, bringing what’s expected to be a full-strength first team under newly appointed Head Coach Conor Hourihane.
These are the only home fixtures on Emley’s 2025 pre-season calendar, and following the success of last year’s clash with Huddersfield, which drew a crowd of over 1,700, both matches are tipped to be sell-outs.
A Big Moment for the Club and Community
Chairman Andrew Painten shared his pride in hosting two such esteemed clubs: “To welcome not just one, but two League One clubs to Emley this summer is something we’re incredibly proud of.
“These games are a reward to our fantastic supporters and our community, and we’re looking forward to welcoming Lee Grant, Conor Hourihane and their first-team squads to Emley.
“We know our fans will create an unforgettable atmosphere for both games.”
New Beginnings for Grant and Hourihane
The match against Emley will be Lee Grant’s managerial debut for Huddersfield Town, a chance to evaluate his squad under real match conditions.
A club spokesperson said: “This will be Lee Grant’s first pre-season fixture as Town manager and an important opportunity to assess the squad in a competitive environment.”
Barnsley’s new Head Coach, Conor Hourihane is equally eager to get underway: “This promises to be a fantastic evening of football.
“It’s a great chance for us to build momentum and give players minutes in what will be a competitive atmosphere.”
