The Huddersfield Business Improvement District have today revealed their brand new Yorkshire Soapbox Race to take place in Huddersfield Town Centre on 19th September 2021.
Huddersfield BID is now looking for businesses and organisations to show their support for the town and get involved on the day by becoming sponsors of the event.
Businesses can field and sponsor their own racer, working with the community to showcase their creativity and ingenuity.
For those unfamiliar, a soapbox race is a type of downhill competition often using homemade wooden carts or trolleys styled like mini cars. The name soapbox comes from the original materials used to build the cars, namely old-fashioned soap or apple crates.
Huddersfield BID emphasised that taking part could be a great way to drum up interest and get your business noticed on the day. They are currently working on booklets to hand out on the day, showcasing businesses in the town centre.
‘Exciting Event’
Huddersfield BID manager, Sam Sharp, said: “This is an exciting event to put Huddersfield on the map as the place to take part in a soapbox race in Yorkshire.
“It will bring the whole town alive and provide a full day of entertainment, thrills and great offers.”
Details on where the race will be taking place haven’t been announced yet, but more details are expected to be announced in the coming months.
Huddersfield BID, Marketing and Projects Executive Sophie Patel, said: “We have put together simple instructions on how to build your soapbox which can be found on the BID website.
“My only advice would be to stick to the terms and conditions. However, be as wacky and creative with your soapbox and team costumes.
“Most importantly enjoy yourselves. This is the Soapbox event you do not want to miss.”
