Monday 11th March marks 500 days in RSPCA care for four-year-old Zeus. He arrived at the charity’s Leeds, Wakefield & District Branch, in East Ardsley, West Yorkshire, when his owner couldn’t afford the veterinary care he needed for a serious skin condition.
Animal Care Manager Megan Rattray said: “Zeus is such a lovely, happy dog and he absolutely adores people. He’ll make such a wonderful companion and we simply cannot understand why he hasn’t been adopted yet.”
“He really struggles being around other dogs – so we believe that may be putting off potential owners, but we’ve been doing a lot of work with him to help him understand that it’s okay being around others.”
Megan added: “We’ve also been doing lots of training with him and taking him outside the centre to get him used to lots of sights, smells and sounds. He can get excitable but is also intrigued by everything so he’s been enjoying loose-lead walking and exploring lots of new places.”
“He’s really cheeky and has even learned how to open his walker’s treat bag and help himself to his favourite treats!”

The RSPCA team would like to find Zeus a rural home where he’ll be the only dog, and where he won’t have many neighbours with dogs. Zeus’ new owners will need to be committed to his ongoing training, and continue to help with his confidence around other dogs.
Zeus can be strong on the lead but he loves spending time around people so the team would be happy for him to go to a family home with teenage children.
Megan added: “Zeus is such a clever lad and he absolutely loves training sessions and enrichment games. We’ve taught him the basics and he’s a real pro when it comes to ‘paw’!”
“He’s sweet and goofy and has bundles of energy so he’ll make a truly wonderful family pet. His tail doesn’t stop wagging whenever he’s around people so he’ll thrive in a loving home.”
“We’re all so sad that he’s been with us for 500 days and we’re desperate to find him the perfect home before that turns into 600 days.”
