New programme empowers communities, tackles health inequalities, and encourages residents to get moving.
Move More Kirklees is a new initiative dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of people across the borough through increased physical activity.
Its mission is to encourage individuals to move more regularly, enhancing both mental and physical wellbeing.
Empowering Communities
The initiative works directly with communities, particularly in priority areas, to create spaces, opportunities, and support that make being active easier and more enjoyable.
Move More Kirklees aims to give local people the confidence and tools to lead the way in creating healthier, more active communities.
Tackling Health Inequalities
Many residents in Kirklees face barriers to physical activity.
Move More Kirklees addresses these health inequalities by ensuring everyone has access to opportunities that promote movement.
The programme encourages everyone in the community to play a role in helping people move more.
The Benefits of Moving More
Regular movement has wide-ranging benefits for individuals, families, communities, and the local economy.
Scientific evidence shows that being physically active can reduce the risk of major illnesses such as coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers, and can lower the risk of early death by up to 30%.
Sport England’s Place Partnership
Kirklees is part of Sport England’s Place Partnership Expansion, a targeted initiative designed to tackle inactivity in communities with the greatest need.
Move More Kirklees works to co-design solutions, break down barriers, and make being active easier and more inclusive as part of Sport England’s broader “Uniting the Movement” programme.
