Founded in 2011 by CEO Dr Milton Brown, Chair Edwin Baker, and Chief Editor Christopher Morgan, Kirklees Local TV (KLTV) is a Huddersfield-based social enterprise designed to act as a “cultural ecosystem” for community cohesion and digital inclusion across West Yorkshire. Reaching an average monthly audience of 180,000, KLTV combines media production with civic activism to ensure marginalised voices are heard.
Core Strategic Pillars
-
Digital Archiving & Heritage Preservation: KLTV maintains a vast, free-to-access repository of over 5,500 videos and 2,500 articles. Platforms like the African Descendants Forum preserve minority histories, including projects documenting the Windrush generation and war veterans.
-
Education & Skills Development: An ILM-approved and City & Guilds Assured centre, KLTV has facilitated over 200 student placements and mentored hundreds of volunteers. Its flagship RADAR program has delivered essential workplace training to over 700 Kirklees Council apprentices.
-
Targeted Community Channels: KLTV addresses systemic inequalities by running specialised broadcast channels, such as Talking Health TV (tackling public health disparities) and The Digital Equality Network (disseminating disability rights and legislation).
Broad Reach and Civic Partnerships
While serving all 23 wards in Kirklees, KLTV’s impact extends nationally—through partnerships with the Community Archives and Heritage Group and the production of permanent exhibits for the RAF Museum Midlands—and internationally through film festival features.
