The Huddersfield Windrush on Tour 2026 Tapestry sends a clear, powerful message that, despite the many barriers our elders faced, we are defined by a strong constitution and moral purpose.

Our elders in Huddersfield, across West Yorkshire, and across Britain have achieved, overcome, and thrived in NHS wards, textile mills, the military, community activism, the arts, heritage, and the cultural sector.

We honour the past, anchor the present, and inspire future generations to walk with dignity.

Our Place matters. This is Huddersfield’s story, woven into the very ground of West Yorkshire.

Every image, every line of ink, every picture weaves a socio-cultural heritage of African Caribbeans who refused to be silenced.

The steel pans, Venn Street, the warmth of a “Pardner” hand, and the explosion of colour at the Huddersfield, Caribbean, and Deighton Carnivals shine brightly on the Huddersfield African Caribbean Community.

Resilience, the quiet triumph of those who rose each morning with their heads held high despite the institutional walls built to continually block them, is our Windrush on Tour Tapestry Legacy.

Our Rising Light is just the beginning.

In 2028, on the 80th anniversary of Windrush, we will unveil the next tapestry.

It will celebrate the Huddersfield Windrush Pioneers, the individual heroes from the 1950s to the present who paved the way.

They are the names behind the Credit Union, the voices behind the Carnival, the Church, and Community Activism, providing the shoulders upon which every African Caribbean in Huddersfield and Kirklees now stands.

They ensured that feeling proud of your roots in Huddersfield, Kirklees, West Yorkshire is not an act of defiance but a birthright of infinite pride.
