The UK Government officially launched the Windrush Compensation Scheme on April 3, 2019. It is designed to compensate members of the Windrush generation and their families who suffered losses, deportation, or hardship due to being unable to demonstrate their lawful immigration status. The scheme does not have a deadline and will remain open as long as necessary
It provides payments to eligible individuals who did not have the right documentation to prove their status in the UK and suffered adverse effects on their life as a result. These could range from a loss of employment or access to housing, education or NHS healthcare to emotional distress or a deterioration in mental and physical health.
