By Leah Conway –
2023 will be the ‘Year of Music’ in Kirklees. Year of Music 2023 is a year-long festival of music led by Kirklees Council, in partnership with musical organisations from across the district.
To encourage the year-long festival to be embraced by the whole community from community groups, charities to bands and schools, support will be offered through community grant funding.
The funding is open to a wide range of community groups who want to take part in and collaborate with the kirklees Council for the Year of Music.
Those wanting to grasp this opportunity for funding will be supported through the application process with application guidance workshops.
The workshops are funded by the council and led by Straight Forward Funding’s Lisa Jagger. The workshops are free to attend, are open to a person or group and continue to take place throughout August via Zoom.
Upcoming workshop dates include the 3, 4, 17, 18, 31 of August and 1 September.
Interested parties book their place or find out more on the Creative Kirklees website.
‘Exceptional and diverse’
Councillor Will Simpson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Greener Kirklees, said:
“Kirklees has designated 2023 as a Year of Music for the district, as part of the Yorkshire region’s plans for a year of culture. The 2023 Year of Music will show just how exceptional and diverse music in Kirklees is.
“We hope that every group and organisation that has something to offer to the Kirklees music scene is able to take part. These workshops by Straight Forward Funding will give people and groups the tools they need to access any funding that is out there to make to help make their plans a reality.”
