Earlier in the year, Kirklees Council consulted tenants in council housing. The consulation aimed to find solutions to establish compliant fire safety measures and reduce potential fire risk in council owned buildings, which would comply with the latest government requirements.
Following the tenant consulation, a plan for safer and modern high rise living will be put to Kirklees Cabinet at its meeting on 27 July.
The plan proposes a mixture of remediation, refurbishment and rebuild across four council owned high rise blocks.
There was a high response rate from residents has allowed the council to listen to the voices of those directly impacted. Suggestioned action for the council included: demolish and rebuild with lower height accommodation Holme Park Court and Bishop’s Court at Berry Brow, refurbish and remediate Buxton House and to carry out fire safety improvement works to Harold Wilson Court.
