Huddersfield Town host Coventry City F.C. at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Championship this Saturday 1 May. 3 pm K.O.
Team News
Huddersfield are currently 20th in the Championship table. There are only two games to go in the campaign and after a string of poor performances, the Terriers are not guaranteed safety yet.
Town face Coventry this weekend, who are only one place above them, meaning this is likely to be a tight game between the two sides this close to the end of the season.
Huddersfield last faced Blackburn Rovers where they, unfortunately, lost 5-2. This was certainly a game where they could have done much better. Blackburn were up by two goals after 22 minutes, leaving Huddersfield almost defeated before they even got started.
A half time gift of an own goal couldn’t save them as Blackburn rattled off three more goals after the break, with town given one more consolation goal by Josh Koroma near the end.
Huddersfield will simply have to do better this weekend if they are to finally secure their spot in the Championship next season.
Coventry City
Coventry sit 19th in the table just one position above Huddersfield. Looking at the table as it stands Coventry are safe for another season in the Championship. On paper their team is strong and that has been reflected in their last five games, winning three and losing two. Huddersfield are really going to have to work to break them down and do some damage at the weekend.
The last time that Huddersfield and Coventry matched up was mid-December last year. The result of the game was a pretty flat 0-0 draw. Looking at the stats it was a fair result, however. Coventry had five shots with three on target and then there was Huddersfield with six shots, two on target.
One player to watch for Coventry is the forward, Tyler Walker. The striker has a total of 6 goals this season alongside 2 assists. Despite the injury that he picked up midway through the season, it doesn’t look like it has slowed him down and I think that he is certainly going to be a player to watch out for.
Huddersfield Town Press Conference
Huddersfield Town Manager Carlos Corberan spoke to the press today (29 April) ahead of the game on Saturday.
Speaking on the upcoming match, he said: “For us, this is a very, very important game, we are going to arrive with concentration and determination. We need to show our best performance.”
Predictions
With only two games to go, it’s down to the wire for Huddersfield who are sitting just above the relegation zone. A win here would assure their survival within the Championship. This is going to be another game which could really test them to see what they are capable of.
Coventry are another strong team like Huddersfield and like I mentioned before they are hard to break down. Another tight game similar to the one in December seems likely.
Huddersfield and Coventry haven’t historically met all that often, the last time they played each other in league football before this season was in 1977.
I do think this will be a test for both teams as they have had an almost mirrored season with their performances.
