Sheffield Wednesday will host Huddersfield Town in the SkyBet Championship at Hillsborough Stadium today, Wednesday 17 March 2021; 19:45 pm KO.
Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield is currently 18th in the Championship table following the win against QPR at the weekend. The win is also keeping them 9 points clear of the relegation zone. The Terriers managed to get their second win of the calendar year, which will hopefully not be the last for them this year.
Huddersfield had a great game away at QPR, not only bringing home the win but a really strong performance overall as a team and I certainly think that this is going to give the Terriers the boost coming into the upcoming games.
The last time Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday matched up was on the 8th of December last year, where Town grabbed 3 points. With 2 early goals from both Koroma and Mbenza was enough for them to get the win.
Huddersfield also had 59% of the possession at the final whistle showing that despite the early goals, this did not affect the Terriers game with them clearly being able to hold up the ball.
Pre Match Press Conference
Carlos Corberán shared his latest thoughts in the pre-match press conference.
In regards to the importance of the last match against QPR Corberán said “Very important game for us and it’s very important adding points as we are in a position where we need them.”
On their formation flexibility, he added: “The more rigid you are, makes you less predictable to the other team.”
Lastly, Corberán added his assessment on the Sheffield Game, he said: “Arrive with the same mentality as we have done with all our other games. It is a very important game and a very special game with Sheffield being a very close team.”
Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield is currently 23rd in the table, fighting for a win to pull themselves out of the dreaded relegation zone. Wednesday have lost their last 7 games, which is a really poor performance for the team.
The Owls had a rough start to the season, putting them down at the bottom before the season even started. Wednesday started with a 12-point deduction. This was due to breaching rules while selling their Hillsborough stadium.
One player to keep an eye out for Sheffield is Callum Patterson. The forward has played every game this season so far and has had a total of 6 goals and 2 assists. Despite the unfortunate run that the Owls are currently on, this player is certainly someone you should keep an eye out for.
Prediction
I think that it is going to be a very important game for Huddersfield that will give them a big boost if they manage to bring back the 3 points this game. This will also be a great boost for Huddersfield going into their big gap of 17 days until the next game, giving them plenty of time to prepare and recover.
Sheffield Wednesday is in a bad position in the table, meaning this win will be very important for them and to try and give them a bit of hope for pulling themselves out of relegation.
Another thing to take into consideration is the number of managers Wednesday have had this season. The Owls have had a total of 4 different people managing them this season which is another clear indication of how badly they are struggling this season to try and stay in the championship.
