Huddersfield Town will be facing up against Derby today for the first game of the Championship season; 3pm KO.
Huddersfield Town F.C
Huddersfield previously played Sheffield Wednesday in a carabao cup game where they managed to get the win!
The game stayed very tight throughout with both teams creating different chances and opportunities. The game did finish as a 0-0 thought meaning it was brought through to penalties to decide who would go through to the next round.
It is now time for Huddersfield to enter the first game of the Championship season and show what they are capable of. With Carlos and the squad, I feel like this is going to be a great season for Huddersfield and a great chance to push further up the table.
Derby County F.C.
Derby was another team that had an interesting last season which was interesting. There was conflict straight away due to some legalities meaning that they should have had the same point reduction as Sheffield Wednesday.
This didn’t take place for Derby but did for Sheffield which seemed very unfair. If Derby did have the point deduction then they would have being relegated from the Championship. After the season finished there were further investigations that took place to try and get Derby a point deduction which would have put them in League One.
The EFL had to do a fixtures list for both Wycombe and Derby in case this point deduction did take place and Derby were put in League one.
Again Derby managed to slip through the gaps and avoid this point deduction. There were also talks on this taking place this season. Meaning they would start with a -12 point deduction and again this did not take place.
So after all of that Derby are still in the Championship and there is no point deduction for them as of this moment in time. But it is key that they don’t slip any points this season as this could most definitely affect their position if it does.
Derby has had mixed results during their friendlies but overall they have looked strong. The past two games have been won by Derby meaning that they are going to be on high morale.
One player to watch for Derby County is Graeme Shinnie, this is a player that doesn’t get much attention but is someone who is in the squad week in week out for Derby holding up the midfield. He is also a midfielder who can drop back and get in with the defence at the back.
This is going to be a tough first game of the season for both teams and like mentioned before they both have their strong aspects and both of these teams finished close last season.
With the way Huddersfield played in their previous game against Sheffield I feel that if they can put up the same performance but with better execution, the Terriers will be just fine and should be able to bring home the first win of the season.
Looking over the past three games where Huddersfield and Derby have played is also very close with a draw win and loss. Huddersfield looks to have confidence so therefore I predict…
