As we continue our partnership with Northern Gas Networks, we wanted to take the time to focus on a less obvious aspect of the company that people may not know about: education and training.
NGN are committed to providing education and training opportunities to people across Kirklees and beyond.
They are particularly dedicated to developing young people’s skills. They help to improve young people’s employment prospects and, in turn, are taking steps to elevate our region.
Their work covers a wide demographic, from primary school pupils to older students preparing to enter the world of work.
NGN focus on providing initiatives on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects.
As well as this they also work with their partner organisations to promote essential safety messages for younger students, which covers topics such as Carbon Monoxide (CO) safety.
NGN also has a partnership with Hull Children’s University. This partnership provides a number of opportunities such as educational trips, work placements and mentoring opportunities for young people with disadvantaged backgrounds.
The educational commitment of NGN is not limited to covering a STEM subject approach. NGN also have a professional artist, Mick Hand, who delivers workshops to young people in local areas close to NGN work sites.
Furthermore, NGN has a ‘Young Presenter of the Year’ competition, which is aimed towards 12-17 year-olds and focuses on improving young people’s confidence and skills in presentation, all while they learn more about the gas industry.
