On Thursday evening, 20th February, Kirklees Local TV attended Kirklees Council’s Inaugural Inclusion and Diversity Awards at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The awards night was an event which celebrated organisations who are determined, committed and successful in their inclusion and diversity practices across the borough of Kirklees.
Kirklees Local TV won the Best Diverse Business Award, as well as the Best Diverse Initiative with the Windrush: The Years After. A Community Legacy on Film.
Milton Brown, CEO of Kirklees Local TV, has a few words of thanks below.
These awards celebrate the hard work and dedication of core staff, volunteers and partners.
Five of us started out with just two cameras nine years ago, with a will and desire to challenge inequality, raise the profile of wonderfully diverse people, groups and individuals within Kirklees and celebrate the achievements of those who make a difference.
These awards absolutely endorse our approach and dedication to Inclusion and Diversity, we are and will continue to be inclusive in our orientation, diverse in the makeup of our staff, transformational to those who work with us and those who we serve, finally inspirational to anyone who engages with.
A huge thank you to our partners, The University of Huddersfield, their support has been immeasurable. I met Professor Paul Ward who saw the opportunity to link the university with a social enterprise like our, this has been a huge success. The work has continued with Professor Barry Doyle, Caroline Pringle (Senior Lecturer) and over 50 students providing invaluable skills to our organisation and gaining immense knowledge across the diverse communities of Kirklees.
But it’s the community volunteers who are the true stars of our success, they come from all sorts of different backgrounds and their contributions are priceless.
The National Heritage Lottery for investing time and finance when others thought against supporting the Windrush Project, thank you for your bravery and courage to take on a national crisis with us and showcasing, with dignity African Caribbean’s determined to make England their home against waves of discrimination.
Last year we had a reach of over 2 million and this year we are up on last year’s January target. It feels like things are only going to get bigger from here on.
Our final and most important thank you, is to you. Those of who you subscribe to us, click and engage. Without the local public support who knows where we would be today and to those of you reading this, we send out a very special ‘thank you’.
