THIRST, the autobiographical account of writer and actor-musician, Callum Patrick Hughes and his narrow escape from the fatal clutches of alcohol in his late twenties is heading on tour this Spring.
The tour kicks off in Bristol in January, at a time when many revellers have opted for ‘dry January’ to help them detox after a drinks-heavy festive period.
The solo show combines original songs and storytelling to explore how a lifelong love of pubs led its writer and performer down a path of self-destruction, and reveals the pivotal moment, five years ago, that brought him back from the brink.
THIRST ushers audiences through Hughes’ journey of recovery via a string of showbiz anecdotes featuring Trevor Nunn, Sinead Cusack, Felicity Kendall and the late Olivier award-winning director Bob Carlton.
Exploring the highs and lows of his larger-than-life decade since drama school, Hughes details the mix of self-care and creativity that helped him finally learn to manage the ‘noise’ inside his head.
As THIRST acquaints audiences with the people and moments that made sure Hughes reached his 28th birthday, it offers hope for and solidarity with struggling drinkers and creatives everywhere.
The UK Tour of THIRST has been generously backed by Arts Council England, Create Recovery and the Wildcard Foundation.
Hughes’ previous theatre credits include: Return to the Forbidden Planet UK TOUR; The Canterville Ghost, Southwark Playhouse and The Great Gatsby, The Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch.
Previous writing credits include: The Little Mermaid (Riverside Studios), NewsRevue (Canal Cafe) and Drive-Thru Eucharist (Bath fringe)
