Saturday, 24th June 2017 – 12:00 – 21:00
Greenhead Park, Huddersfield
What is happening in Huddersfield on June 24th, 2017?
On Saturday 24th June 2017, thousands of members of the public, campaigners, NHS staff, nurses, junior doctors and more will come together in Greenhead Park in central Huddersfield to celebrate #HandsOffHRI Campaign’s 2017 Flagship Event – the free family fun day out, “Party in the Park”.
The Hands Off HRI Campaign have been working with local bands, stall holders and children’s entertainment providers as well as locally based activity groups to bring together a Free Family Fun Day Festival. This promises to be an outstanding musical experience with plenty of action packed, fun-filled demonstrations and activities. It will be held on Saturday 24th June in the picturesque Greenhead Park in the market town of Huddersfield, situated in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The event will raise awareness of the threats facing Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) which serves the half a million residents of the Greater Huddersfield and Calderdale region.
What is the aim of HandsOffHRI Campaign’s “Party In the Park”?
The objective of the festival is to raise public awareness of the campaign against the proposed reconfiguration of local NHS provision in Greater Huddersfield and Calderdale whilst providing a fantastic experience for people of all ages and varying musical tastes. There is a firm emphasis on providing a family friendly environment for first-time festival-goers and longtime music fans; everyone can experience a wide range of musical acts within a safe environment.
What kind of event will “Party In the Park” be?
A huge one! Party in the Park will be Hands Off HRI Campaign’s Flagship Event for Summer 2017. A crowd approaching 10,000 members of the public, families, children, young and old are expected to attend throughout the day and will be warmly welcomed to Greenhead Park.
Following the enormous success of 2016’s Funday Sunday on September 4th, also organised by the Hands Off HRI Campaign, this will be the second year of the festival. Many people organising Party in the Park – not least
Why is Hands Off HRI Campaign holding a huge public event like Party in the Park?
The Greater Huddersfield and Calderdale CCGs have proposed to demolish Huddersfield Royal Infirmary leaving a smaller cottage style hospital across the road at the Acre Mills Site. The Hands Off HRI Campaign and many tens of thousands of Huddersfield townsfolk wish to make it clear that this is a step too far for a population area of 250,000 and there is zero popular mandate for moving forward with this proposal.
What’s in store at Party in the Park?
The acts at Party in the Park will include:
- the fantastic Reggae/Ska band Superfly fronted by local legend and MC Audley Buckle
- the upcoming youthful energy of Days of Riot
- classic rock masters Vital Statistics
- Bravado Cartel
- Fiery Biscuits
- Helter Skelter
- Days of Riot
- Six Months in Mexico
- Band of Oz
There will be additional attractions such as fairground rides, alongside activities such as Zorb Balls,
Everyone attending the one-day free festival in Greenhead Park will be able to enjoy the eclectic mix of stalls and local shops in and around the park and sample the wonderful wealth of delicious foods that will be on offer around the Party in the Park.
In addition, we are delighted to announce the attendance of our newly elected MP’s Thelma Walker,
Hands Off HRI Campaign aims to ensure that their flagship annual campaign event continues to grow into one of the region’s best-loved music festivals.
