A resident of Manchester is organizing a charity music gig to raise funds for Dementia UK, the dementia specialist nurse charity.
Chris Wells, aged 49, is calling on the local community to support the event, which will take place on April 22nd, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Club in Huddersfield at 7 pm.
Tickets for the event are priced at £10 per person and feature music from local artists before the main performance, where Chris, alongside members of his family, will perform a number of songs with a personal connection to his late father.
Fundraising
Chris lost his father to a rare form of dementia in October 2022.
He decided to fundraise for Dementia UK to help the charity provide more Admiral Nurses to support other families facing dementia.
He said, “We had a lot of help from the charity – now this is my way of showing my support.”
Dementia UK provides specialist dementia nurse support through its Admiral Nurse service.
Admiral Nurses provide life-changing support and guidance for families affected by all forms of dementia in communities, hospitals, and hospices, on the free national Dementia Helpline, and in clinics.
‘Hard Work’
Savannah Redhead, Community Fundraising Executive at Dementia UK, expressed gratitude for Chris’s efforts.
“Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia,” she said.
“Thanks to the hard work of our amazing fundraisers like Chris, more families than ever will be able to access the life-changing support offered by our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses and National Dementia Helpline.”
The event aims to raise awareness about the growing health crisis of dementia, with over 900,000 people currently living with the condition in the UK, a number that is expected to rise to 1.1m by 2025.
Tickets for the Tony Wells memorial fundraiser can be purchased through Eventbrite.
