‘Read’ in Holmfirth are one of 12 independent bookshops to have recently received a HarperCollins Literacy Grant.
The grants were launched in January 2019 which offered “funding to bookshops to attract new customers through entrepreneurial new projects.”
As written on their website, the HarperCollins Literacy Project Grants, associated with the National Literacy Trust “Aim to bring together communities, support schools in areas of significant deprivation and inspire a love for reading in children.”
Read will be running informal and friendly song and storytime sessions around the local area in Holmfirth to help adults gain confidence in reading to children.
They commented: “We are incredibly proud and excited to have been awarded a Literacy Project Grant.

“Improving literacy and the life chances of children is what drives us and we feel very lucky to be given the opportunity to work more closely with schools, preschools, libraries and community groups to do this.”
On their official Facebook, the bookshop also mentioned: “We will keep you posted on our progress throughout.

The bookshop opened in October 2018 in the centre of Holmfirth and hosts numerous events throughout the year including guest speakers, book launches and the popular ‘pyjamarama’.
