Young people aged 14 to 25 with a disability and/or special educational needs and their parents are being invited to a special event that will showcase the support available in Kirklees to prepare them for adulthood.
The Preparing for Adulthood – local offer live event has been developed by Kirklees Council in partnership with Kirklees Special Schools.
The event will have over 50 stalls to show people the wide range of support and services currently available in Kirklees across four themes: Higher education and employment, Independent living – planning for a home of my own, Participating in society – having a life and being as healthy as possible.
It is never too early to start planning ahead.
The aim of the event is to bring information on the Kirklees local offer website to life, showcasing what is currently available and help shape future services by working together.
Cllr Viv Kendrick, Kirklees Cabinet Member for Prevention, Early Intervention and Vulnerable Adults, said: “This event is part of our commitment to early intervention. It’s important that parents of children and young people with a disability and/or special educational needs are aware of all the support and advice available in Kirklees. For some parents, there may be stalls at the event that could really make a big difference to their lives. For every professional attending the event, they may be able to signpost many other parents to the help they need. This event is about bringing people together to really make a difference.”
