After the success of the first event last year, the Yorkshire Motorsport Festival returns to Holmfirth for 2022, and promises to be even ‘bigger and greener’.
With last year’s Festival affected by Covid restrictions, the organisers for the 2022 event say they have created a fantastic, safe three-day event for all the family.
Michael McErlain, Festival CEO, says: “This year we’re pulling out all the stops to create an even bigger festival that not only celebrates all that’s great about British motorsport but creates three amazing days out for all the family with a wide range of events and entertainment.”
Events and Stalls
With cars and motorsport the centrepiece of the Festival, visitors can experience the thrills of live motorsport action around the iconic 0.8 mile Wolfstone Hill Climb, which will play host to three days of events covering a wide range of different vehicle classes.
Organised by the Mid-Derbyshire Motor Club, under licence from Motorsport UK, this closed road event will see the return of cars from across the decades competing against the clock on a challenging course through the stunning West Yorkshire countryside.
Away from the hill climb action, visitors can enjoy events of every shape and size in the fields on a 25-acre site, including a family funfair, Superhero meet and greets, Stuntshows and historic racing car simulators.
Of course, there are also numerous vehicle displays, with cars, tractors, NASCAR Trucks, stock cars, plus supercars and luxury marques to check out.
Visitors can also enjoy a fantastic lineup of food and drink and the Yorkshire Shopping Village, celebrating the very best of handmade Yorkshire-made crafts and gifts.
For music lovers, the Festival has put together a lineup of live music acts on the Main Stage on Friday and Saturday, featuring Huddersfield-based Fiery Biscuit, Abba tribute band Abbarella, Sass and The Groove and the Tone Junkies. There’s also live music in the fields on Sunday from Sheffield songster Adrian Paris.
Industry Standards
Aside from the entertainment, the Festival aims to inspire new generations of young people to enter the automotive engineering industry in its Palmer Foundation Engineering Village where visitors can explore careers, and apprenticeships and talk to experts.
Additionally, with sustainability on everyone’s agenda, the Electric Avenue explores the latest technologies and innovations in electric vehicles.
As a motorsport festival the organisers are deeply conscious of the impact of the combustion engine on the environment, which is why both last year and this, they remain committed to a wide range of green initiatives.
These include the investment of £20k in improvements to the Festival site and the exploration with Holme Valley Parish Council’s Climate Emergency Committee of plans to plant a carbon offset YMSF orchard.
This year’s Festival at Holmfirth takes place on June 24, 25 and 26. Tickets can be bought online on the Yorkshire Motorsport Festival website.
