The RSPCA is appealing to the public for information after three puppies were found abandoned in a box near a canal towpath in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire.
The incident occurred on Friday, 24th March, and the dogs were discovered in poor condition.
The animal welfare charity has warned the public that abandoning animals is never the answer, as it responds to an increasing number of abandoned pets amid a cost of living crisis.
The puppies, two females and a male, are believed to be only around eight weeks old and have skin conditions.
One of the dogs also has a swollen front leg with an abscess-type injury.
They have been named Daphne, Dorothy, and Dylan and are currently in the care of the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District Branch.
‘Concerning’
RSPCA animal rescue officer Kris Walker, who is investigating the incident, said: “Thankfully, they will all be okay, but it is concerning that they were dumped.
“We’re asking the public for help – if you recognize the puppies or know of a mum whose pups have suddenly disappeared, this information might help us find who did this.”
Increased Reports
Last month, the RSPCA received 1,324 reports of abandoned animals, up 8% from February 2022.
The animal welfare charity has urged pet owners not to abandon their pets due to the financial burden of veterinary fees.
Instead, the RSPCA recommends seeking financial help from various resources, including the charity’s dedicated cost of living call line on 0300 123 0650 or its cost of living hub.
