New courses for unpaid carers are set to take place next year, arranged by Kirklees Council’s Health Trainer Service.
In addition to their current courses covering; caring for someone with memory deterioration, building resilience, and safeguarding, courses will also be offered on healthy eating, and juggling time as a carer.
There will be a new ‘healthy eating and nutrition’ session, which will give carers an understanding of the impact of food and nutrition on their body and mind. It will particularly benefit those caring for people with a long term health condition.
There will also be a ‘juggling your time as a carer’ session, which explores strategies and tools that can be used to help manage the daily challenges of balancing a caring role with other responsibilities and commitments.
Courses, which take place in Dewsbury and Huddersfield, last 2 ½ hours and are delivered in a confidential, supportive group environment.
Cllr Viv Kendrick, Kirklees Council, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said: “These free courses offer much needed support to carers. Carers can be anyone looking after a family member, partner,
friend or neighbour who is in need of help. The person they care for may need help because they are ill, frail, have a disability or substance misuse problem.
“The courses provide practical help and support on how to manage their day to day caring role. They also offer an opportunity to talk with other carers in a similar position to themselves.”
