A new development of supported living, wheelchair accessible accommodation for people with physical disabilities will be officially opened on Thursday 20 October.
The homes are the result of a partnership between Kirklees Council and Connect Housing and funded through the Government’s CASSH (Care and Specialist Supported Housing) scheme.
The scheme is the first of its kind in Kirklees and features six one-bedroomed purpose built wheelchair friendly bungalows in Mirfield.
The bungalows benefit from far reaching views across the valley and each bungalow has allocated parking.
The site also includes a carers pod, and around the clock care is provided by community-based charity United Response.
Residents of the housing development will be able to lead independent lives with the knowledge that if they need help someone is on hand to provide it.
Cllr Vic Kendrick, Cabinet Member for Adults said: “I am delighted that we have been able to provide this high quality accommodation for the people of Kirklees.
A physical disability should not be a barrier to finding a safe and comfortable place to live.
These homes will make people’s lives easier and encourage them to live independently for as long as possible.”
